8 hour business trip coming up and so invested time in researching an external power source for the iPhone. Decided against a battery/case combination as I already have a good case and would prefer not to pay for something already owned and which provides inferior protection. The question then came down to whether I wanted a larger unit which connected via wires or a “direct connect” module with lesser power reserves. Decided on this Kensington and upon my first day with it, determined the following:
Pros:
-Straight forward and simple design. Plastic case is nicely done, if not tremendously protective.
-5 bright blue display lights depicting the power remaining
-Large enough battery to perform multiple charges
-Able to juice most USB powered devices
-Well priced
-Two year warranty
Cons:
-Almost as large as the phone itself
-Requires 2 sets of wires, one from unit to AC and one from unit to iPhone.
On the first test, I went from 18% to 96% in two hours. Approximately 3 bars/50% energy still remained (per read-out). So far, so good!
